We are so proud to have become a featured property for this historic company!
Old Hickory started making furniture in Indiana in 1898. One of the first large customers of this new company was the National Parks of the Western United States. In 1906 the company delivered dining chairs to the Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone National Park. The architect, Robert Reamer, considered the Old Hickory furniture as “the finishing touch to the Old Faithful Inn”. These same chairs are in use today in the main dining room! Made in America and family owned and operated, not a lot has changed with the manufacturing of Old Hickory furniture, as each piece is still hand-crafted and made to order; no inventory is held.
The hickory tree has a unique growth pattern in that it grows straight and tall yet the diameter does not normally exceed 3 inches — even after 20 to 30 years of growth. Interestingly, once the hickory tree is harvested it naturally replenishes itself by immediately sprouting new shoots from the stump; a natural reforestation. Moreover, it grows to approximately 2-inches in diameter within 10 years, making it naturally sustainable as well. To create beautiful bends in chair backs and headboards, saplings are boiled and then shaped. Other lodging establishments that feature Old Hickory are the famous Grove Park Inn of Asheville, North Carolina, The Wilderness Lodge at Disney World, the Historic Lodge and Cabins at Bryce Canyon, the Historic Cabins at Zion National Park, and now The Landing at Estes Park.

Honest, Genuine, Trustworthy. Nestled in the tiny neighborhood of Greenwich Village in New York City, C.O. Bigelow is the landmark apothecary that has been a fixture of New York City culture since 1838. For nearly two centuries, Bigelow has been a destination for the Country’s most prominent personalities, from Thomas Edison and Eleanor Roosevelt to modern film stars and esteemed writers, musicians, and artists. Inspired by actual formularies and therapeutic ingredients from our archives, C.O. Bigelow’s personal care products combine centuries-old, proven formulas with modern remedies sourced globally. In keeping with our longstanding mantra of “Honest, Genuine, and Trustworthy,” the line is an authentic range of problem-solution formulas with a heritage of efficacy. Many of the products are not only true to the original formularies but also named for the doctors who created them or the patients for whom they were initially made, continuing to tell a story of C.O. Bigelow’s apothecary tradition.
Capel Rugs are featured in several of The Landing’s units. As America’s oldest area rug manufacturer and one of the only producers of authentic American-style braided rugs, the Capel Rug Company still takes pride in the time-honored tradition of beautiful, detailed craftsmanship. A socially responsible company recognized for its educational endowments and local service projects, Capel continues to do its own dyeing, braiding, and sewing in North Carolina to ensure quality from start to finish. Enjoy the comfort and charm of these handmade area rugs during your stay at The Landing!
LED (light-emitting diode) Bulbs & Building Insulation:
In an effort to reduce our energy demand and overall environmental impact, all lighting at The Landing uses LED bulbs and all buildings have efficient insulation. LED lights contain no toxic elements, have a longer lifespan, and are up to 80% more efficient than traditional lighting such as fluorescent and incandescent. In fact, 95% of the energy in LEDs is converted into light and only 5% is wasted as heat, as compared to fluorescent lights which convert 95% of energy to heat and only 5% into light! While LED lighting does cost more up front, we at The Landing feel that taking care of the environment is an important responsibility.
